Cache - is a snapshot of a web page. Both Yahoo and Google cache your web pages during indexing.

CGI - or Common Gateway Interface is a small program that takes data from a web server and puts the content of a form taken from a web page into an e-mail message, or it can turn the data into a database query.

Click-Through - is A click on a hyperlink that leads to another website.

Click-Tracking - refers to the use of scripts which can track inbound and outbound links.

Cloaking - is a spam technique that delivers highly optimized content to specific crawlers/spiders, however the visitor is diverted to another page altogether. This technique is a violation of the Terms Of Service of most search engines.

Clustering - is limiting the number of web pages for each website that appear in the search results, to one or two listings per site.

Conversion - Conversion refers to visitors that convert to a desired action, such as buying a product on-line, filling out a contact form, or registering with a search engine or a newsletter. Webmasters measure conversion to judge the effectiveness and the return on investment (ROI) of PPC and other advertising campaigns.

Conversion ratio - is the total of all visitors to your site, divided by the number of visitors who actually converted to a sale.

Comment Tag - A is tag in HTML that is invisible in your browser, unless it is viewed through the source code and they are ignored by search engines in determining your website rankings.

Counter - is a program or script that counts hits/visitors to a specific page.

CPA - is the acronym for Cost per Action. Where you pay for a specified action such as a purchase or sale.

CPC - is an abbreviation for Cost Per Click, where you pay for each referral or visitor generated from search engines during your search marketing campaign.

CPL - is the acronym for Cost per Lead. Where you pay for a lead, so long as the lead or prospect, buys something.

CPM - is the acronym for Cost per 1,000 impressions.

Crawler - is a computer program also known as spider or spyder which spans the web, gathering web page data.

Cross Linking - occurs when multiple sites are linking to each other.

CSS - is the acronym for Cascading Style Sheets. They are used to manipulate and easily manage the design of a website.

CTR - is the acronym for Click Through Rate which is the ratio of impressions shown to the number of clicks received.

CTA - is an abbreviation for Content Targeted Advertising and refers to the placement of relevant PPC advertisements on websites other than search engines.

CTR - is an abbreviation for Click Through Rate or Click Through Ratio. It is a ratio of clicks per impressions in a PPC campaign.
