Regardless of what you've read online about how often you need to submit, it is in your interest to read the submission guidelines for each search engine so you know what not to do.

Submission services and submit software both became web dinosaurs when Google arrived in our language. Sometime later, the other major players then modified their submission process and algorithms to also combat the spam in their indexes and excessive submission.

Unfortunately, a lot of folks continue to submit every week or hire a service to do it monthly for them, only to realize all that was required was to follow the guidelines recommended by the search engines ....submit your home page once.

The major search engines all have spider bots moving around the Internet, following links from one site to the next. Once your site is indexed you now longer need to submit any page because if you do it is considered spamming their submit page, which is for new sites.

DMOZ is worth submitting to however, you should be aware while some directories allow free submissions, others may require a submission fee, be it one-time or yearly in nature.

Search engines spiders are mainly interested in visible text content be it page text or your navigation links. What they record across your entire site, from the text content and text links, if any, helps establish your site's relevance for the keyword phrases relevant to your web sites content or theme.

If you are looking into a website for your company, remember, there is nothing better than good descriptive content about your products, services or your unique theme, to get you into the top rankings for your keyword phrases.

Websites with pages that are little more than a handful of graphics/photos, with a 20 word or less mission statement or the like on each page, can't compete with one that has the oodles of factual/helpful/descriptive copy writing about the theme.
